City band to hold

patriotic concert

The Lawrence City Band will hold its Fourth of July concert at 8 p.m. Wednesday in South Park because last Wednesday's concert was rained out.

Robert E. Foster is the band's conductor, and retired Colonel Arnald Gabriel, USAF, will be the guest conductor.

The concert will feature patriotic marches and music from the movies and the American circus. Songs will include:

  • "Americans We" by Henry Fillmore.
  • "American Overture for Band" by Joseph Wilcox Jenkins.
  • "That's Entertainment" arranged by John Higgins.
  • "Hollywood!" arranged by Warren Barker, with Col. Gabriel as guest conductor.
  • "A Circus Set: Barnum and Bailey's Favorite" and "Walking Frog, Two Step," both by Karl L. King (clowns will be present).
  • "A Tribute to Irving Berlin" arranged by Warren Barker.
  • "America the Beautiful" arranged by Carmen Dragon.
  • "The Stars and Stripes Forever" by John Philip Sousa.
