— Jamie Peterson scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead South's ninth-grade boys basketball team to a 60-56 win over Topeka Logan on Tuesday. The Cougars improved to 2-4.

In the B game, SJHS won 17-13 in a game abbreviated to two quarters. South's B team improved to 4-1.

Dominick Harrell's 17 points paced South's eighth-grade team to a 49-35 win over Logan at SJHS. The Cougars upped their record to 4-2.

In the eighth-grade B game, Ryan Rowland led a trio of Cougars in double figures with 18 points as SJHS cruised, 75-19. Lucas Weber added 16 points and Matt Johnson 12 for the Cougars, now 6-0.

South's freshmen will play host to Shawnee Heights on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Heights will host the eighth-graders at 3:45 p.m.

City wrestlers

to battle today

Lawrence High and Free State will meet today during a wrestling double dual at Topeka Seaman.

The event starts at 5:30 p.m. The two city schools are scheduled to dual at approximately 6:45 p.m.

The Lions are 7-9 in duals this season. Free State is 0-4.

Free State dominated LHS last year in the first dual between the two schools. The Firebirds won, 47-18.

Goodwin to sign

Lawrence High senior first baseman Mandy Goodwin will sign a letter of intent today to play softball for Cowley County CC.

West sweeps Seabury

Matt Berner scored 16 points as West's eighth grade downed Lawrence Seabury, 51-30, in city junior high basketball on Tuesday at West.

Andrew Eisenbarger added 10 points for West (1-3). West won the B game, too, 57-19. Nick Lewis led the Warhawks (1-3) with 14 points. West will travel to Topeka Logan on Thursday.

SW, Heights split

Southwest and Tecumseh Shawnee Heights split a city eighth-grade basketball doubleheader on Tuesday at Southwest. Brian Seymour scored 13 points in the West's 46-38 loss in the A game. Cameron Karlin scored 11 points in the West B team's 40-31 victory. The Southwest A team (2-3) and B squad (3-2) will play host to Topeka Northern Hills on Thursday.

Veritas rolls, 44-24

Overland Park -- Veritas Christian School defeated Whitefield Christian School of Overland Park, 44-24, Tuesday in junior high boys basketball. Joel Beard scored 17 points for Veritas, 3-2. The Eagles boys and girls teams will meet Berean Christian School of Olathe Thursday in Olathe.

Perry stops Piper

Perry -- Perry Middle School defeated KC Piper, 42-34, in seventh grade basketball on Tuesday. Mitch McPherson scored 12 points for Perry, 3-1. Piper tripped Perry, 24-21, in the B game. Piper won the C game, 36-9.

LHS sophs beat

Free State, 34-28

Ashley Burnett scored 11 points to lead Lawrence High's sophomore girls basketball team to a 34-28 victory over Free State on Tuesday.

Ashley Ferrington chipped in seven points for LHS (4-6). Emily Yessen and Susie Epp scored 10 points apiece to pace the Firebirds.

Next for LHS is Emporia on Thursday.
