Boulder, Colo. Back in the days of the old Big Eight Conference, a Kansas-Colorado women's basketball game often was paramount to -- and sometimes the equivalent of -- the league title game.
The rivalry has lost some of its luster of late, but don't tell that to Kansas coach Marian Washington.
"They're all big games at this point in the season," Washington said. "But we certainly look at Colorado as a rival."
Normally at least one of the teams is ranked. But both Kansas (13-5 overall, 3-2 Big 12) and CU (8-7, 1-4) are missing from the Associated Press top 25 heading into tonight's game at the Coors Event Center.
Tipoff is 8:05 p.m., with a taped replay available on Fox Sports Net (cable channel 45) Thursday morning at 1:30 a.m.
Kansas has won five of the last six meetings with Colorado. The Jayhawks' only loss in that span came in the championship game of the 1996 Big Eight tournament.
The Jayhawks are coming off an 82-62 loss at Nebraska on Saturday, KU's worst loss this season. Kansas hasn't lost consecutive games since the start of the Big 12 Conference season last year.
Kansas tonight will face a young squad. The Buffs' starting five is made of two sophomores and three freshmen. Kansas counters with a senior, junior and three sophomores.
KU will return home to play host to No. 6 Texas Tech on Saturday, then hit the road again next Wednesday to face Texas in Austin.
