Leavenworth — Graveside services for Jesse Paul Slavens, 69, Leavenworth, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mount Muncie Cemetery.
Mr. Slavens died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan.
He was born July 19, 1929, in Springfield, Mo., the son of Jesse C. and Gertrude Mae Murphy Slavens.
He was a brick mason in Springfield, Mo., for many years. He also lived and worked in the Lawrence/Topeka area from 1960 until the 1980s. He was a member of Eagles in Lawrence and the Mason's Union.
Survivors include his mother, of Overland Park; two daughters, Paulette Abbott and Nancey D. Parsons, both of Leavenworth; a son, Joseph Slavens, Leavenworth; a brother, Norman Slavens, Archie, Mo.; three sisters, Evelyn Jones, Overland Park, Ada Hamm, Medesto, Calif., and Anna Fender, Topeka; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Slaven.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home, Leavenworth.
The family suggests memorials to the donor's choice.
