Baldwin High School's freshmen dropped a heartbreaking 56-52 overtime loss to Spring Hill in the finals of their invitational tournament here Saturday.
The Bulldogs had a 45-42 lead with 51 seconds left in regulation after a pair of free throws by Eric Black.
A turnover, missed free throws and a foul as the game-ending buzzer sounded opened the door for Spring Hill's Broncos.
They responded by hitting both free throws to send the game into overtime.
Spring Hill outscored Baldwin 11-7 in the extra period to take the tournament title. Colby Pearson led BHS in scoring with 12 points, and Black added 11.
The Bulldogs had reached the finals by beating Waverly 50-36. Hugh Murphy topped the scoring in that one with 13 points, and Black had 10. The BHS freshmen now have a 6-3 record and will be idle until a return date Jan. 26 at home against Spring Hill.
Santa Fe Trail topped Waverly in the consolation bracket of the tournament to finish third.
