Prosecutors charged a second man in connection with the molestation of a 6-year-old Baldwin girl, and the suspect will appear in court on the aggravated criminal sodomy charge this week.
An investigation began in November after authorities were contacted by Baldwin school authorities, who heard from unidentified sources about illegal pornographic materials on a computer owned by James Minter. Minter, 26, Eudora, pleaded guilty last month to two counts of rape and five counts of aggravated criminal sodomy.
Minter's sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 5.
Prosecutors filed the aggravated criminal sodomy charge against the second suspect on Dec. 31, the day after Minter pleaded. The suspect, a 29-year-old Baldwin man, is free on $30,000 bond. He is scheduled to make a first appearance at 3 p.m. Friday in Douglas County District Court.
The charge alleges the 29-year-old man caused the alleged victim to engage in sodomy with Minter on Oct. 19, four days before the alleged victim turned 6 years old.
Douglas County and Eudora authorities seized Minter's computer on Nov. 3. Sheriff Loren Anderson said computer experts with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation are searching computer files in an effort to come up with other possible suspects.
"The investigation is continuing," Anderson said, "but there are no other warrants or charges right now."
Douglas County Dist. Atty. Christine Kenney Tonkovich said she couldn't discuss exactly how investigators found the second suspect was involved.
"This investigation arose out of the same investigation that led to the filing of charges against James Minter," she said.
