Services for Virgil Smith, 65, Lawrence, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia, Mo.

Mr. Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Columbia, Mo., son of Clifford Smith and Mabel Level Smith.

He was a mechanic for LRM Industries, Lawrence, and a member of Teamsters Local No. 696.

He was married to Dorothy J. Altenburg for 21 years. She survives of the home. Other survivors include two daughters, Debbie Mullanix, Columbia, Mo., and Fonda Gallup, Hallsville, Mo.; five sons, Robert Smith, Columbia, Mo., Joe Smith, Hale, Mo., Tom Smith, Springfield, Mo., and William Matthias and Travis Matthias, both of Swansboro, N.C.; a sister, Betty Benedict, Hallsville, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home; family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday.

The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
