The Kansas African-American Affairs Commission will sponsor the Governor's Martin Luther King Day Celebration, "Come Share the Dream," from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Regency Ballroom of the Ramada Inn, 420 SE Sixth St., Topeka.
The luncheon is to honor King's life and work and will feature keynote speaker James Boyer. He will speak on the legacy of social justice and nonviolence left by King.
Also, the Governor's Martin Luther King Civil Rights Award will be presented to an individual or group whose work reflects an ongoing commitment to King's philosophies and principles. The program also will include performances by vocalists; the Martin Luther King Mass Choir, Topeka; and the Haskell Dance Performers, Lawrence.
Registration is $20 and can be completed by sending a check or money order, along with the names of those who will attend with you, a contact name and phone number to the Kansas African-American Advisory Commission, 1430 SW Topeka Blvd., Topeka 66612-1897.
