City crews need about five hours to reach all 275 miles of streets in Lawrence. Here's a rundown of the priority list:

Primary: Four-lane roads such as Haskell Avenue, Wakarusa Drive and Iowa, Sixth and 23rd streets.

Secondary: Less-busy streets, such as Harvard Road, Lawrence Avenue, Monterey Way and Connecticut, 15th and 19th streets.

Residential: Everything else, typically in residential areas.

"We basically go from highest travel to least travel," said Tom Orzulak, the city's street division manager. "We may go over the main streets several times. ... We try to hold off on the residential until it stops snowing."
