— Kansas blanked Notre Dame 1-0 on Sunday at the Gladstones softball tournament.

The Jayhawks went 3-2 in the three-day tourney to place third. Next for Kansas (8-3) is the Arizona Invitational on March 5-7.

Manhattan -- Kansas University's men's bowling team placed first at the ACUI Region Eleven championships Sunday at Kansas State's Union Bowl

The Jayhawks, who knocked down 7,727 pins, beat Central Missouri State, Wichita State and Nebraska.

KU was led by Tom Partridge, who placed fifth with a 203 average. Jeff Ussery averaged 198, Brian Schmidtberger 190, Mike Keeler 189 and Scott Donner 188.

The KU women placed fifth overall. Barri Forkos averaged 171 and Kristi Hackworth 161.

signs two players

Bridget Goyen and Mervi Kuittinen have signed national letters of intent to play soccer at Kansas.

Goyen, a defender and midfielder, is a two-time all-state selection from James E. Taylor High in Katy, Texas.

Kuittinen is from Jokikunta, Finland. She played for the under-20 national team in Finland.

LHS sophs go 1-1

Eudora -- Lawrence High's sophomore B basketball team went 1-1 at the Eudora tournament on Saturday. The Lions lost to Tonganoxie, 52-50. Nick Hirschey scored 16 points and John Riling nine for the Lions. The Lions also beat Eudora, 50-43. Grant Van Blaricum scored 10 points.
