— Services for Bessie E. Schendel, 85, Eudora, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wilson and Son Chapel in Wellsville. Burial will be in the Wellsville Cemetery.

Mrs. Schendel died Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at Eudora Nursing Center.

She was born Nov. 3, 1913, near Salem, Neb., the daughter of Frank and Harriet (Branaum) Bacon. Her family moved to a farm in Johnson County, southwest of Olathe, when she was a small child. She attended Lone Elm Grade School and graduated from Gardner High School.

On May 27, 1936, She married John Wesley Schendel of Eudora. He died July 17, 1993.

Mr. and Mrs. Schendel had spent most of their married life near Clearfield, where they had farmed and raised cattle.

The couple's twin daughters died Nov. 6, 1938.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn J. Markel, Denver, and Linda Schendel, Eudora; two brothers, Ray Bacon and Marion Bacon, both of Olathe; and three sisters, Florence Stithem, Longmont, Colo., and Nellie Bacon and Bernice Holden, both of Gardner.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
