Umpire Meeting: An orientation meeting for umpires interested in working city adult summer softball leagues is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Feb. 27 at the Community Building, 115 West 11th. For information, call Bob Stanclift at 832-7922.

Basketball, Volleyball Meetings: Orientation meetings for city spring basketball and Sunday sand volleyball league will be at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the Community Building. For information, call 832-7922.

  • Kerbel Picks Fort Hays: Heidi Kerbel, a Lawrence High product who played volleyball the last two years at Barton County CC, has signed a letter of intent with Fort Hays State.

  • Hilding Eighth: D.J. Hilding of Lawrence finished eighth overall in the Groundhog Run in Kansas City, Mo. Hilding's time in the 5K was 17:41.

  • HABA Moves Meeting: Holcom Amateur Baseball Association has moved its preseason meeting from Feb. 22 to March 26 at 7 p.m. at the Community Building. Holcom League tryouts for 13- and 14-year-olds are scheduled for 8 a.m. on March 27 and 28 at Holcom Complex.

  • Aquahawks' Ventsam Shines: Mallory Ventsam of the Lawrence Aquahawks earned four gold medals at the Mid-America League meet last weekend in Kansas City, Mo. Other firsts were earned by Ashley Robinson, Elise Rock and Alysha Valencia. Rock also had three seconds. Teammate Chris Sellon had two silvers while Sarah Marlow, Joe Goering, Robinson, Valencia and Ventsam had one apiece. Sellon earned third thirds. Other bronze medals went to Robinson, Rock and Lindsey Witthaus.
