KU LACROSSE FALLS

Regis College dropped Kansas, 20-4, in women's club lacrosse on Saturday at Broken Arrow Park. Senior Lara Ratican scored two goals while Jessica Kibbe and Kristen Bloom had once each for KU.

KU inks soccer players

Kansas soccer coach Mark Francis has signed two players to letters of intent. They are: Nikki Wahle, a senior sweeper from SM West and Brianna Valento, a senior defender from St. Paul, Minn.

Free State sophs

stomp Aquinas

Greg Dillon scored 18 points to spark Free State High's sophomore boys basketball team to a 75-67 victory over Overland Park Aquinas on Monday.

Clint Thrasher scored 13 points for Free State (13-3). David Herrera and Paul Holladay contributed 12 points apiece.

Central tips SM North

in two OTs, 74-71

Central defeated SM North, 74-71, in double overtime in the first round of the West Invitational ninth grade basketball tournament on Monday.

D.J. Watkins scored 24 points, Michael Weil 13, Cuyler Halpin 12 and Brandon Jackson and Michael Edwards 10 each for Central (11-5). Central will meet OP Aquinas at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the semis.

In other first-round games, Aquinas dumped West, 70-64 in overtime; Shawnee Mission South upended Southwest, 43-36; and SM Miege downed South, 58-34.

Jamie Peterson and Sheldon McGuire scored 11 points for South.

SM North will face West and Southwest will face South in consolation games Wednesday. SM South and SM Miege are paired in the other semifinal.

FSHS sophs fall

Shawnee -- Shawnee Mission Northwest dumped Free State, 52-29, in sophomore girls basketball on Monday. Steph Heider scored 11 points to pace the Firebirds (7-8). Next for FSHS is a road game Thursday at Olathe South.

Baldwin loses

Wellsville -- Wellsville dinged Baldwin Junior High's eighth-grade boys basketball team, 42-33, on Monday. Brian Laurdsen scored 11 points to lead Baldwin (5-7). In the seventh-grade contest, Baldwin won, 58-29. Micah Mason scored 14 points to boost Baldwin.

LHS soph girls win

Lydia Young collected 13 points and 11 rebounds as Lawrence High downed Leavenworth, 45-31, in sophomore girls basketball on Monday. Catherine Ross added 12 points for the Lions (8-9).
