How much of the money donated to the Salvation Army in the kettles for the bell ringers stays in Lawrence and how much of it leaves the area?
All the funds that go into the kettles are used to meet obligations in Lawrence and Douglas County, Lawrence Salvation Army Commanding Officer Lt. Kirk Schuetz said.
Now that a third animal control officer has been hired, what are the days and times when an officer is on duty? What are the additional hours when an officer is on call for emergencies? If you have space, please tell us what emergencies would be covered and also give the number for animal control.
Michael Tubbs, an intern in the city manager's office, provided the following information:
- An officer is on duty from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
- An officer is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The on-call status is rotated weekly among the division's three officers.
- "Emergencies" include animal bites, vicious animals, cruelty to an animal or other situations where an animal's well-being or a person's safety is threatened.
- The phone number for the supervisor of animal control is 832-7560.
