Trash collectors and mail carriers will make their rounds Friday, but most other government services won't be available because of the New Year's holiday.

All federal, state, city and county offices will be closed Friday, New Year's Eve.

Residential trash service will operate as usual and a few city recreation sites will be open on Friday. Holcom Park Recreation Center and the Community Building will be open from noon to 5 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

The Prairie Park Nature Center will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Friday and from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. All facilities will be closed New Year's Day.

Municipal courts will be closed Friday. The district court offices and district attorney's office also will be closed Friday.

Douglas County Senior Services, including all meals and Bus 62 service, are shutting down Friday and Saturday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Friday through Sunday.

The Lawrence Bus Company will not run Friday or Saturday.

The Kansas University campus will be closed Friday.

Watson and Anschutz libraries and the Museum of Anthropology will be closed Friday through Sunday.

The Natural History Museum will be closed Friday and Saturday, but will be open noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Spencer Museum of Art will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, closed on Saturday, and open noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Haskell Indian Nations University administrative offices also will be closed Friday.

The post office will have regular delivery Friday, but only will deliver Express mail and some priority mail on Saturday. The United Parcel Service will have regular deliveries on Friday, but no automatic pickup. They will be closed Saturday.

Federal Express will have regular delivery Friday, but not Saturday.

Most banks will be open for a short time Friday. They will be closed Saturday.

The business office at the Journal-World will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Friday, but will be closed Saturday and Sunday. A circulation representative will be available until noon Friday and Saturday. USA Today will deliver Friday.
