Gerald L. Cooley, Lawrence attorney, was appointed Douglas County chairman for the 1950 Heart Fund drive.

According to Capt. Earl Polsley of the Salvation Army station here, Douglas County's second annual Christmas Bureau which coordinated holiday aid had been a success in every way. More than 2,000 toys had been distributed to 505 children.

Ben Bowen, undersheriff of Douglas County, declared his candidacy for sheriff in the 1960 election.
