Services for Robert E. Walters, 70, Lawrence, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors by Alford-Clarke Post No. 852, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Walters died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 28, 1929, in Centralia, the son of John David and Bessie Mae (Rush) Walters. He graduated in 1948 from Centralia High School and attended Kansas University.
Mr. Walters served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He had worked for General Motors and DuPont Chemical Co. before he retired in 1985.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and a VFW life member.
He married Gladys June Cox on July 4, 1951, in Sabetha. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Randy, Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters, Debbie Guenther, Baldwin, and Sheryl Saathoff, Lawrence; a brother, John, Jayess, Miss.; two sisters, Rosa Woolsoncroft and Bernece Bonjour, both of Centralia; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Assn., and they may be sent in care of the funeral home.
