AT PETERSON AND NORTH IOWA?

I've noticed a "future park" sign at the southwest corner of Peterson Road and North Iowa Street. What's the plan?

Hallmark Cards Inc. in 1996 donated to the city 8.3 acres of vacant property at the corner for use as a park, said Fred DeVictor, the city's director of parks and recreation.

Since then, the city has hired Landplan Engineering to help devise a "master plan" for the property's development as a "neighborhood park," he said. Look for public meetings this winter and spring to help gather input for the plan.

The plan also will include ideas for 14 acres of undeveloped property at the northwest corner of the intersection, DeVictor said.

"That land may be donated to us," he said. "We've got permission from the Hallmark corporate people to do a master plan for that area."

The city has no immediate plans for developing the two areas, which would be considered one "Hallmark Park," DeVictor said. Installation of any playground equipment or other features would depend on financing.
