Having your child abducted or sexually molested is almost too horrible to think about.
But make yourself think about it, says Diana Jones, a child safety expert and psychologist who has been running child safety workshops in Westchester County, New York, since 1995. More to the point, make sure your child knows how to react when confronted with a potentially dangerous situation.
Jones has written and published a guide, "RunYellTell: Safe Choices, Safe Children" ($10.95 paperback), which can be ordered by calling (888) 543-7798 or through the Web site, runyelltell.com.
"Children need to be prepared, not scared," says Jones. "This is a disturbing subject for parents but one that must be addressed. Having knowledge can save a child from an encounter in which the damage cannot be reversed."
