Baseball star Ted Williams of the Boston Red Sox drove from Kansas City to Lawrence for a treatment by Kansas University's famed osteopath, Phog Allen. Williams said the treatment helped greatly to alleviate his pain. He was in Kansas City with the Red Sox to play the Athletics. Allen also had treated Mickey Mantle and Johnny Mize, New York Yankee stars.
