Area children with asthma will participate in a pickup basketball game with Utah Jazz player Greg Ostertag at 10 a.m. Thursday on the outdoor court at 7th and Kentucky Streets.

There is no admission charge. Youngsters of all ages can register by calling 1-800-LUNG-USA.

Ostertag, a former Kansas University center from Duncanville, Texas, will be in town for the fourth-annual Ostertag Golf Classic Friday at Eagle Bend Golf Course and the first Big O spaghetti dinner Thursday at the Holidome.

Both events benefit the asthma programs of the American Lung Association of Kansas.

Ostertag will make a $50,000 donation for the second straight year. His $50,000 is earmarked for American Lung Association pediatric programs such as "A is for Asthma" -- a preschool age program; "Open Airways for Elementary School Children" and Camp Super Breathers for Kids with Asthma."

Ostertag's chosen charity is the American Lung Association partly because he suffers from exercise-induced asthma. More than 47,000 children in Kansas also have asthma.
