A 25-year-old Pomona man was killed Monday morning when he was thrown from his rolling car into his own front yard.

Matthew A. Thomas was driving home at 2:45 a.m. when he drove his 1996 Nissan Sentra into the ditch in front of his house, said Craig Davis, Franklin County undersheriff.

The car hit a telephone pedestal and rolled twice, throwing Thomas from the vehicle.

"His wife was awakened by the crash and found him and called for help," Davis said.

Davis said Thomas was on his way home from a friend's house when the accident occurred in the 600 block of Thomas Road. Thomas was westbound and drove off the north side of Thomas Road.

Emergency crews pronounced Thomas dead at the scene.

Davis said Thomas was not wearing his seat belt.

Sheriff's investigators are still looking into how the accident happened. They don't yet know how fast Thomas was driving.

Thomas is being tested for alcohol, Davis said. Those test results won't be available for a couple weeks.

Davis said this was the fourth fatal accident in Franklin County this year.
