Lawrence police are working their fourth flashing case in the Oread neighborhood in as many weeks and are looking at whether one man may be responsible for startling several women, a spokesman said.

Four women, all in their 20s, told police early Thursday that a white man wearing only tennis shoes and socks fondled himself in front of them in the 900 block of Tennessee.

The women said the man appeared to be in his 20s, 6 feet tall and about 150 pounds with short and wavy or curly brown hair. They described him as clean-shaven and "tall and thin," Sgt. George Wheeler said.

Thursday was the fourth time recently that police have fielded such calls from women in the Oread area.

A 20-year-old Kansas University student told police she was walking about 12:45 a.m. July 23 in the 1600 block of Tennessee when she glimpsed a naked white male walking northbound on Tennessee.

The woman described the man as 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and 150 to 200 pounds. She said he appeared to be between 20 and 30 years old and had short hair and a medium build.

On July 11, a 19-year-old woman told police that a naked man had fondled himself on her porch in the 300 block of West 16th. In another recent incident, two 19-year-old women said a man exposed himself to them in the 1400 block of Kentucky. He had been carrying his clothes, the women told police.

Wheeler said anyone who encounters a flasher should take the situation seriously and immediately call police.
