nets more than $5,000
A recent softball tournament raised more than $5,000 for a rural Lawrence boy struggling with a brain tumor.
"We had a big turnout," said Amy McNish, whose 20-month-old son, Cody Blake McNish, is recovering from his second bone marrow transplant at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. "We had a lot of games, a lot of kids. It was a very cool thing."
The Saturday fund-raiser featured a softball tournament, music, food booths and children's activities.
Runza also raised $1,000 for Blake, as his family calls him, on Monday. The restaurant donated a percentage of its sales that day to help the family with medical bills.
The McNishes have medical insurance, but it hasn't covered all of Blake's expenses.
Donations to the Cody Blake McNish Fund can be sent in care of the Bank of Perry, P.O. Box 7, Perry 66073.
