LHS tennis wins,
ties, loses at LTC
Alex Chief and Mike Connolly each claimed two singles victories as Lawrence High beat Topeka Seaman, tied Topeka West and fell to Topeka Washburn Rural in a boys tennis triple dual on Monday at the Lawrence Tennis Center.
Chieu accounted for the Lions' lone win in its 3-1 loss to Rural, and he contributed to Lawrence's 3-1 victory over Seaman. Connolly helped the Lions to a 2-2 tie with West and picked up another win against Seaman.
"Alex Chieu concentrated especially well in the first match against Rural," LHS coach Dick Wedel said. "After he sat out a round, he had a hard time getting started against the Seaman player, but he collected himself and and ran out the last three or four games.
"Mike Connolly lost 6-1, 6-1 when he played (his Rural opponent) last winter, so we count a close loss as improvement. Mike concentrated well and had pretty good poise, which is the difference in many top-flight matches."
Santaularia second;
FSHS 3rd; LHS 6th
Overland Park -- Free State sophomore Charlie Santaularia tied for second and Free State placed third at the Shawnee Mission East golf invitational on Monday at Meadowbrook Country Club.
Santaularia tied SM East's Joe Pryor for second, two strokes behind winner Byron Shultz of Shawnee Mission South.

LHS placed sixth overall with a team score of 327.
SM South won the team title with a 319.
Also, a split-squad Free State team placed third at the three-team Eagle Bend Invitational. Kevin Stamer led the Firebirds with an 80. Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst won the team title with a 296. Free State shot 340.
