Lawrence police were questioning a man Monday night after the stolen gun he was loading went off and the bullet went through the wall of his neighbor's house.
There were no injuries in the incident, which occurred about 9:50 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of Arizona.
The woman was alone in her home when she heard the bullet come through the wall, police said. The bullet was found lodged in a floor of her home.
Police followed the apparent trajectory of the bullet, went to a nearby home and questioned a man there, who said the gun had accidentally discharged while he was loading it.
Police then checked the serial numbers on the .44-caliber Magnum and discovered it was stolen.
Police said the incident likely will be turned over to the district attorney's office.
The man had not been arrested as of late Monday night.
He was being questioned in the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center.
