Services for Mabel C. Bamber, 95, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Bamber died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 1, 1903, to James and Edith Steele Lambert in Stockton.
In 1926, she moved to Lawrence. She was a partner with her sons in Grover's Market from 1953 to 1958. She sold the market in 1958 but continued to work there until 1962.
Mrs. Bamber received a presidential citation from Ronald Reagan for walking and bicycling. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Good Fellowship Church Circle.
She married Ira Lee Grover March 11, 1922, in Alma, Neb. He died Jan. 23, 1950. She married Harry Bamber Aug. 5, 1962; he died March 13, 1981.
A daughter, Thelda Reck, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons Arvid Grover, Milwaukee, Arland Grover, Laramie, Wyo., Adryn Grover, Holiday Island, Ark., and Daniel Grover of the home; a sister, Devota Shelton, Sacramento, Calif.; two stepdaughters Marilyn Hains, Lompoc, Calif., and Doris Zehe, Liberty, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The family suggests memorials to the First United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
