School board meeting
will focus on TIF
Assistant Supt. Craig Fiegel will further explain the concept of tax increment financing (TIF) during Monday's school board meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. at the District Service Center, 3705 Clinton Pkwy.
The city of Lawrence is proposing the financing method in a downtown redevelopment project. Board members will decide whether the school district should support the use of future tax dollars through TIF for such a project, or whether they should reject participation in the plan.
The board received information on TIF during a special study session held last week.
The discussion portion of the meeting also will include a report on reading initiatives, and a K-6 Student Reporting System committee update.
In a special action item, the board will consider an offer to purchase the former India School property on East 23rd Street.
