Independence -- Kansas Trails Council will conduct its annual Super Outdoor Weekend next Friday through Sunday at the Elk City Lake outlet, seven miles northwest of Independence.
All backpackers, hikers, horseback riders, canoeists, bicyclists and others who love the outdoors are invited.

Graves' Turkey Hunt
to begin Thursday
El Dorado -- The annual Governor's One Shot Turkey Hunt is scheduled next Thursday through Saturday.
A total of 68 celebrity hunters from across the nation will be on hand. Gov. Bill Graves, former governor Mike Hayden, National Wild Turkey Federation CEO Rob Keck, TV personality Jameson Parker (Simon & Simon), and many more will rise early and take to the woods in search of a gobbler.
