St. Marys -- A Requiem Mass for John Senior, 76, Lecompton, will be held at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Assumption Chapel in St. Marys. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery in St. Marys.
Mr. Senior, a retired Kansas University professor, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Stamford, Conn., the son of Roy and Evelyn White Senior. He grew up on Long Island, N.Y. He completed bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees in comparative literature at Columbia University in New York.
He taught at Baird College and Hofstra College in New York. He later taught at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and in 1960 he moved to Laramie, Wyo., to teach at the University of Wyoming. He moved to Lawrence in 1967 to teach English and classics at Kansas University; he retired in 1983.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Assumption Chapel in St. Marys.
He married Priscilla Wood on Sept. 22, 1945, in New York. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Fonfara, Fort Collins, Colo.; two sons, Matthew, Morris, Minn., and Andrew, Manhattan; a sister, Mrs. Robert Cornish, Plano, Tex.; a brother, Hereward, Montreal; and five grandchildren.
A rosary will be recited at 6:10 p.m. Monday at the Assumption Chapel.
