For the first time last year, the county hired a private company to do its roadside mowing. At the time of the decision, commissioners were told it would save them money in equipment and labor. Last week, commissioners were told that doing the work with county staff would be less expensive than accepting the $45,555 bid of Rice Custom Mowing for the work. The discrepancy caused commissioners to reject the bid with the directive that county staff try to work out a better deal with Rice.
