Baldwin theater sets

'Show Boat' auditions

Baldwin -- Auditions for Baldwin City Theatre's production of "Show Boat" will be held today and Monday at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, 704 Eighth.

Children will audition from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today. Adults will audition from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

"Show Boat," based on the novel by Edna Ferber, is about life on a show boat that travels the Mississippi River. Music is by Jerome Kern and lyrics are by Oscar Hammerstein II.

The show will feature a large cast of actors of all ages. Ballet dancers and African-American male singers are especially needed. Positions are also available for accompanist, design artist, stage manager, public relations coordinator and coordinating artist.

Tickets to go on sale

for The Kinleys

Ottawa -- Tickets go on sale Monday for a performance by The Kinleys at 7:30 p.m. May 1 at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium, Third and Hickory.

The Kinleys, who are twin sisters, have been nominated for many awards and won the Academy of Country Music's Top New Vocal Duo/Group Award. Their songs include "Just Between You and Me," "Please," and "Somebody's Out There Watching," which was featured on the "Touched By An Angel" television series.

Tickets will be on sale at Ottawa Municipal Auditorium and Budges Sports Center in Ottawa.

exam applications

The United States Postal Service on May 16 will accept applications for the Postal Service Battery Examination from candidates for entry-level jobs in the Mid-America District.

The Mid-America District includes Lawrence and all surrounding communities with 660 as the first three digits in their ZIP code.

Examination application cards are available from, and can be submitted to, the main post office, 645 Vt., or Jayhawk station, 1519 W. 31st, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Health department

offers day-care class

The Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department is sponsoring an informational meeting about day-care licensing and registration at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the health department, 336 Mo.

Kansas law requires homes to be registered or licensed when child care is provided for one or two children more than 20 hours a week total time, or for three or more children. When care is provided for only relatives' children, registration or licensing is not required.
