Sartin shuts out

Jefferson West twice

Meriden -- Senior Jaime Sartin hurled two shutouts in Tonganoxie High's softball doubleheader sweep of Jefferson West on Thursday.

The Chieftains won 3-0 and 1-0 in their season opener. Sartin struck out seven and allowed six hits in the twinbill.

Ginny Adams had three hits in the doubleheader, including the game-winner in the second game.

Next for THS is Gardner-Edgerton on Tuesday.

Oskaloosa sweeps

Pleasant Ridge

Oskaloosa -- Oskaloosa High opened its softball season with a sweep of Pleasant Ridge on Thursday. The Bears won 12-5 and 7-2.

In the first game, Heather Robbins was the winning pitcher. Renee Lawson posted the save, striking out four in two innings.

Oskaloosa's Lindsey Abbott went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs in the opener. Jenny Lindsey and Angela McConkey both went 2-for-3.

In the second game, Lawson tossed a one-hitter for the victory. She struck out 11 batters.

Next for Oskaloosa (2-0) is a home doubleheader against Burlingame on Tuesday.

Eudora thumps

Osawatomie twice

Eudora -- Eudora High doubled its victory total from all of last season with a doublehader sweep of Osawatomie on Thursday. The Cardinals, now 4-0, beat Osawatomie, 14-9, 12-2.

In the first game, catcher Jamie Grant tripled for EHS. First baseman Darcie Rodgers and center fielder Nicole Campbell both went 4-for-4. Nichole Hickman was the winning pitcher.

In the second game, Jenny Tyler and Campbell both doubled. Roshena Niedens tripled. Melanie Smith was winning pticher.

Next for EHS is a doubleheader at Paola next Thursday.
