Most deaths are reported to the Journal-World by funeral homes. We welcome notices from families concerning an out-of-town death if we can verify it with the funeral home handling the arrangements.
The deceased must either have lived in the Lawrence area at some time other than their college years, have immediate family living in the Lawrence area or are to be buried here. Current KU students would be an exception.
To eliminate errors, we ask that the information be submitted on paper. Please bring or fax the information to the Journal-World newsroom by 6 p.m.
Weddings, anniversaries, engagements, births and other items about current and former Lawrence residents appear on Saturday's Society page. We will publish photographs with wedding announcements, engagement announcements, and 50th and above anniversaries.
Information must be in writing. Mail, bring, e-mail or fax your announcement to the newsroom. The deadline is noon Wednesday for publication each Saturday. The exception is the week before a holiday, when the deadline is noon Tuesday. Please include a daytime phone number.
Letters to the editor
The Journal-World welcomes letters to the editor. They should be 350 words or less, of interest to the general public and avoid name-calling and libelous language. The Journal-World reserves the right to edit letters, as long as viewpoints are not altered. Shorter letters are preferred. Letters must bear the name, address and phone number of the writer.
The Journal-World publishes several lists of upcoming activities in the area. To submit information about your event, write clearly or type the details on paper and include the name and phone number of a person we can contact in case we have questions.
