SENIOR SERVICES SCHEDULES MEETING

Douglas County Senior Services board of directors will hold its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vt.

The date of the meeting, which is open to the public, has been changed from the regularly scheduled date.

Lawrence High School

to hold open house

Lawrence High School will hold an open house for parents of all students from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. today at the school.

Parents of students who are enrolled in a ``zero-hour'' class may meet with teachers beginning at 6:45 p.m.

Parents will meet in the LHS auditorium, then meet with teachers in individual classrooms.

Senate campaign

coming to Lawrence

The Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate will speak Thursday in Lawrence.

Paul Feleciano is set to speak at a noon luncheon at the Eldridge Hotel, Seventh and Massachusetts.

Seating is still available for the event, which is part of a series of public forums sponsored by the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce and Sallie Mae. Feleciano, of Wichita, is challenging incumbent Sen. Sam Brownback for his seat in Congress.

Railfans Weekend

slated in Baldwin

Baldwin -- Hour-long historic train excursions will regularly depart Baldwin's Santa Fe Depot on Saturday and Sunday as part of Midland Railway's annual Railfans Weekend.

A variety of excursion train rides aboard classic railroad equipment dating from the late 19th century will be featured as part of the festivities, which also will include a special appearance by former Harvey House waitresses in period dress.

Souvenirs, refreshments and tickets will be available at the depot, which is located at 1515 W. High St. in Baldwin. Train trips are scheduled for 11:30 a.m., 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. each day. Fares are $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 4 through 12. All-day passes are $20. For more information contact Midland Railway Historical Assn. at (800) 651-0388.
