IN 1898

September 9, 1998

On Sept. 9, 1898, the Lawrence World stated: ``The University was formally opened today with appropriate exercises, Chancellor Snow presided. Prayer was offered by Rev. Rogers and the opening address was made by Prof. A.C. Scott of the Agriculture College of Oklahoma. The address was listened to by a large body of students and Lawrence people, the subject of which was `The Value of Service,' and was highly meritorious, scholarly and appreciated by everybody.''
