Here's a look at Kroger Co. before and after its planned merger with Fred Meyer Inc.:
Kroger operates 1,398 food stores in 24 states, including Dillons, Gerbes, Kroger, Fry's, City Markets and King Soopers. It also operates 802 convenience stores in 16 states, including Kwik Shop.
Fred Meyer operates 800 food and general merchandise stores in 12 states from Alaska to Texas. They include Food 4 Less.
After an $8 billion merger announced Monday, the combined companies will have annual sales of $43 billion, 2,200 supermarkets in 31 states and about 300,000 employees. It will be known as Kroger and based in Cincinnati.
