A Tonganoxie nursing home on Wednesday afternoon was cleared to admit new residents following a six-day ban by the state for alleged violations of regulations.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment last Thursday issued an order banning new admissions to Tonganoxie Nursing Center, 1010 East St., No. 940, Tonganoxie, after an inspection revealed deficiencies that significantly and adversely impact the health, safety, nutrition, or sanitation at the facility.

The alleged deficiencies included water that was too hot, residents who had lost weight unexpectedly and others who had bed sores, said KDHE spokesman Don Brown.

Inspectors found the alleged violations had been corrected by Wednesday, and the ban prohibiting the admission of new residents was lifted, Brown said.
