Baker University's soccer team beat Benedictine, 3-1, on Wednesday. Rayburn Moore had two goals and Mike McCabe one, while Peter Lenz and Tye Pruitt had assists for BU, 9-2-2.

LHS sophs win, 5-3

Overland Park -- Lawrence High's sophomore soccer team defeated SM West, 5-3, on Wednesday. Patrick Darnell scored two goals, while Eric Clark, Gabe Burt and Jamie Peterson had a goal apiece. Assists were by Vinicius Amorim, Casey Rahmeir, Chris Teefey, Darnell and Peterson. LHS, 7-5-1, will travel to Olathe South Monday.

Schuler third at league

Horton -- McLouth's Brian Schuler placed third and Oskaloosa's Kris Cannon fourth at the Delaware Valley League cross country championships on Wednesday at Lakeview CC. Also, McLouth's Crystal Edgell nabbed sixth and Oskie's Molly Bellinger seventh in the girls race. Results in scoreboard.

Kansas' Uribe

wins qualifier

Austin, Texas -- Kansas University senior Luis Uribe defeated Old Dominion's Johan Varverud, 1-6, 7-6, 7-5 in an ITA All America qualifier on Wednesday. By winning, Uribe qualified for the main draw of the tournament.

Uribe will meet Texas' Paul Martin today in the opening round of the main draw.

``The way Luis worked his way back into the match is the sign of a great player,'' KU coach Mark Riley said. ``Luis is just hot right now.''
