McLouth senior quarterback Jeff Schwinn, a 6-foot-2, 180-pounder, completed 15 of 27 passes for 302 yards and two touchdowns in the Bulldogs' 28-22 loss to Jackson Heights last week.

``He gave us life late in the game,'' McLouth coach Gerard Aligo said. ``He took us down the field and showed us some versatility.''

Schwinn also rushed eight times for 66 yards, including a 21-yard TD run.

Other candidates:

  • Baldwin running back Josh Callahan rushed 24 times for 216 yards and had four touchdown runs in the Bulldogs' 55-0 romp of Anderson County.
  • Baldwin's Nathan Wedermeyer had six carries for 105 yards (17.5 yards a carry) against Anderson County.
  • McLouth's Nick Coffin had 20 carries for 101 yards in the loss to Jackson Heights. ...
  • Shane Duncan (three catches for 134 yards) and Jim Holwick (four catches for 84 yards) led McLouth's receiving corps.
  • Perry-Lecompton's Joe Corcoran returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown and also had a one-yard TD run in the Kaws' 33-7 victory over DeSoto.
  • Tonganoxie quarterback Michael Gilner completed 10 of 23 passes for 246 yards and had four TD throws in the Chieftains' 58-30 loss to Lansing.
