Three American Pianists Association (APA) Fellows will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday in Swarthout Recital Hall in Murphy Hall as part of the 1998-1999 PianoFest tour.
Performing for the KU recital are Derison Duarte, a graduate student at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music; Peter Miuamoto, a doctoral student at Michigan State University; and Hiroko Kunitake, a graduate student at the University of Southern California.
The APA is a national not-for-profit organization, which was founded as the Beethoven Foundation in 1979 by comic pianist Victor Borge, Carnegie Hall manager Julius Brown and Anthony Habig of Kimball International. The goal of APA is to support young pianists through three-year fellowships for classical musicians and two-year fellowships for jazz pianists.
The 1998-1999 PianoFest tour is the first to be offered outside of Indianapolis, where the APA in headquartered.
The concert is free and open to the public.
