The East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation is looking for donations for the food baskets it distributes to low-income families before Thanksgiving and Christmas.
ECKAN needs cash donations as well as businesses willing to adopt families, said Gary Miller, who does public relations for the agency.
The agency will distribute food boxes for Thanksgiving from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 19 and 20 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1011 Vt. About 200 families have signed up so far for Thanksgiving assistance, ECKAN coordinator Eve Cofer said Thursday.
Kansas University sororities and fraternities will help box and distribute food, and students from Lawrence High School also have expressed interest, said Miller, who also serves on ECKAN's advisory board. Anyone who would like to volunteer may contact Eve Cofer at ECKAN at (785) 841-3357.
People who would like to make a donation, or businesses wanting to adopt a family may call Cofer.
ECKAN also will distribute food to homebound residents, Miller said.
