Douglas County sheriff's investigators on Monday continued searching for suspects in a kidnapping and robbery that took place Friday afternoon.
The three suspects, two black men and a white or Hispanic man, were last seen in a small white pickup with a white camper shell. No license plate information was available.
Undersheriff Kenny Massey said that investigators are assuming that the suspects are still in the Lawrence area.
The men, one of them armed with a .25-caliber handgun, entered the home in the 1000 section of North 1800 Road about 1:30 p.m. Friday. One of them was wearing a Halloween mask, Massey said.
Shortly after taping up the man and woman who live there, the suspects reportedly took a quarter pound of marijuana and a Ruger handgun valued at $400. According to sheriff's department reports, the couple's Pontiac Firebird also incurred $1,000 in damage when one of the suspects smashed a window.
The man freed himself and ran to a neighbor's house to call the authorities, Massey said. Neither the man, age unknown, nor the woman, 37, were injured. They told sheriff's investigators they did not know the suspects.
Anyone with information about the kidnapping and robbery is asked to call Lawrence Crime Stoppers, (785) 843-TIPS.
