County Administrator Craig Weinaug told commissioners Monday that based on the progress of a space needs study to date, it seems likely the city and county will pursue expansion of the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center to accommodate needs of the courts and police department.

"We originally thought that either the court functions or the law enforcement functions would eventually move out into separate quarters," he said in a memo to the board. But growth projects have indicated neither the courts nor law enforcement would fill the building for more than 40 years, he said.

Based on that thinking, Weinaug said, "we are seriously exploring the alternative of expanding the building to accommodate the needs of both the city and the county."
