Perry city council members on Wednesday night said they would consider tax abatements for a potential new sawmill business that could bring several jobs to town.
Joey Crenshaw, owner of Crenshaw Mill of Chillicothe, Mo., is considering moving his business to town.
"He will bring some skilled workers with him, but he said that hopefully, he'll have a payroll of $500,000 to $600,000 per year," said council member DeAnn Hupe Seib. "That would employ quite a few people."
However, the exact number was not immediately known, she said.
The council took no action on possible tax abatements.
The business would be relocated to an existing sawmill on the west side of town that has operated for several years, she said.
In other business, the council discussed a possible ordinance on loud car stereos, but took no action.
Council members have received some complaints about loud stereos, Hupe Seib said.
