The Journal-World's advertising department won several awards from the Kansas Press Assn. recently, including two first-place awards in the trade group's category for classified advertising sections.
"We swept in the classified department," said Tom Fisher, the newspaper's director of advertising. The department won first-place awards for best classifieds promotions and best classifieds section.
First-place awards also were received for best newspaper promotion for a series of ads highlighting employees, and in the miscellaneous category, for an ad promoting Sunflower Cablevision Video Home Weekend.
The J-W received second place in the furniture ad category, for a Blue Heron advertisement. It won two third-place awards, one in automotive for a Laird Noller ad and another in the most adaptable category, for an ad for Jim Clark Motors.
Honorable mentions were received in the financial category for Douglas County Bank; restaurant, for Sports Page Brewery; agricultural for Pine's Greenhouse; and agricultural for Clinton Parkway Nursery.
