Athens, Ga. The Kansas University men's doubles team of Enrique Abaroa and Luis Uribe lost in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tennis tournament on Saturday. Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan of Stanford stopped Abaroa and Uribe, 6-3, 6-3.
By advancing to the quarterfinals, Abaroa and Uribe matched the best-ever NCAA tournament finish by at KU men's doubles team. John Falbo and Jim Secrest reached the quarterfinals in 1989 before falling to a Stanford duo.
``Enrique and Luis worked really hard to get here, and it was tough to see them lose,'' KU coach Mark Riley said. ``But they have a lot to be proud of. They did some things that no Kansas players had done for some time.''
Abaroa and Uribe finished the season with a 16-6 record. With a seed in the NCAA tournament came automatic all-America status. The duo defeated five top-15 teams during the regular season, including the nation's No. 2 pair. Abaroa and Uribe won eight of their final nine matches.
