The Stranger Township Fire Department is holding an open house to dedicate its new fire station from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. The station is located about two miles east of Tonganoxie on U.S. Highway 24-40, 19501 State Ave.
The station has been operational since Jan. 2, and the volunteer firefighters have responded to numerous calls, including grass fires, residential fires, vehicular fires and extrications, water rescue, and medical calls assisting EMS.
In addition to serving as a fire station, the facility houses firefighter and township board meetings, firefighter and first responders training, and will serve as one of the polling locations for Stranger Township residents.
To raise funds needed for safety equipment, the firefighters also are holding a garage sale June 6 at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds in Tonganoxie.
