Free State High School is about to get a new assistant principal.

Lisa Boyd, an assistant principal at Spring Hill High School, will join the Firebird staff next fall as an assistant principal.

Boyd has been at Spring Hill since 1993 and previous to that, taught English at Derby High School from 1986-1993. She earned a bachelor's and master's degree at Fort Hays State University and is working on a doctorate in educational administration at Kansas State University.

``Lisa is a very bright and articulate young woman,'' FSHS principal Joe Snyder said. ``She came to us very highly regarded with good experience both as an assistant principal and as a teacher.''

Boyd joins assistant principals Charles Parks and Ted Berard on the Free State team. She will be involved in student attendance, student management and staff development functions. She will also be the activities director, overseeing extracurricular activities outside of the athletic arena. Steve Grant served in a dual role as athletic and activities director during the school's first year.

The Lawrence school board will consider final approval of Boyd's contract when it meets June 8.
