Mass of Christian Burial for Ruth M. Schubert, 81, Lawrence, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Lawrence. A scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Garden Mausoleum, Lawrence.
Mrs. Schubert died Monday, May 25, 1998, at her home.
She was born June 18, 1916, in Jefferson City, Mo., the daughter of Alphonse and Dayma Rice Overman. A longtime Lawrence resident, she founded the Jay Shoppe in Lawrence with her husband, where she worked as the bookkeeper and credit manager until her retirement in 1984.
She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, group No. 3 of the Altar Society at the church and a Lawrence bridge club.
She married James F. Schubert on Nov. 19, 1936, in Jefferson City, Mo. He survives of the home.
Other survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Sue Wooldridge, Ames, Iowa, and Virginia Curran, Lawrence; a son, Richard J. Schubert, Lake Lotawana, Mo.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church or the Douglas County Visiting Nurses Assn. and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
